KIMBERLY -- The 17th Annual Paperfest at Sunset Park has made its mark as an event where families come to bond, listen to good music and have fun.
Thirteen-year-old Jerome Taggart of Menasha found a great spot at the Amphitheater Stage with his father.

He attends Paperfest every year, particularly for the bands, he said, but not this year.

"I like the rides that sort of flip over and go really fast," Taggart said. "(I'll) just enjoy the music and go on a couple of rides."

Founded in March 1989 by chiropractor Jim Boots and Dennis Smits, a teacher in the Kaukauna school district, Paperfest raised $46,000 last year and expects to raise more than $50,000 this year, said Kevin Hintz.

"Paperfest is a community festival used to raise money for non-profits and civic groups throughout Little Chute, Kaukauna, Kimberly and Darboy," Jane Fuhrmann, food and beverage coordinator, said.

Attending Paperfest is a regular event for Marine Cpl. Dustin Spina, who had no idea the festival is a fundraiser before hearing about it on the radio.

Spina, an Appleton resident, said it's awesome to see people hanging out and having fun for a good cause.

"I wish they'd tell more people about it, then they'd get a better turnout," Spina said of the early crowd.
